origins

When free-roaming dogs outnumbered businesses in Madrid in the late ‘80’s, my mother-in-law opened the Java Junction coffee shop with one used espresso machine and a vision. She added an upstairs bed & breakfast, merchandise and local baked goods, and passed it on to me in 2006. I continue to enjoy running this depot for locals and visitors alike, providing a gathering space to experience Madrid's unique juxtaposition of Western tradition and creative personalities, all while (quite literally!) fueling the diverse energies of our small community.

The Java Junction coffee shop is on the first floor, and our B&B is on the second floor, of one of the historic former miner homes on main street, Madrid, New Mexico. Located on the Turquoise Trail halfway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, the former coal mining town is a colorful Western outpost today, and all of town's wonderful shops, galleries and restaurants are just a few doors away from the coffee shop.

feedback

"Lovely place to stop in Madrid with a small gift shop and comfortable patio. Good tea selection. The coffee ice cubes were a nice touch." — Morgan, 08/22

“My only regret is that there was only one night available for our stay. If you are looking for someplace fancy, Madrid is not the town for you. If you are a free spirit and want to visit a place that is so friendly and warm you feel like are in another time or another planet, go to Madrid and stay at the Java Junction.” — Ken, 07/23

"Location was great, we were able to walk to shops and restaurants. The room was so quaint and cozy. A great place to just unwind with all the conveniences of home. Breakfast was amazing!!" — Brenda, 12/22
